A throwback-type player Munson was a fiery competitor and born leader in the long lineage of Yankees legends. One of only 11 officially recognized Yankees team captains and the first since Lou Gehrig in the 1930s, Munson seems more about baseball’s black and white past than the Technicolor 1970s that spanned most of his playing days from 1969-1979. While the tragic end to Munson’s brief career most likely prevented him from being elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, he is considered nothing less than a god to Yankees fans who hold him in equally high esteem among the pantheon of legends honored in Yankee Stadium’s monument park.
Offered here is the road jersey Munson wore during the 1974 season. This button-down gray Wilson size 42 jersey features “NEW YORK” sewn across the chest in navy and white block letters. The Wilson tag and a matching gray swatch that reads “74 Set 2” is sewn on the bottom front left tail. The sleeves are bordered with navy/white/navy ribbed material and the inside color has an off-white inner lining with a gray swatch that reads “Munson”. The back of the jersey has Munson’s number “15” sewn on in navy and white tackle twill. This jersey displays moderate game use with the sewn-on numbers and letters displaying heavier wear. This is a great opportunity to own a early-career Munson game used jersey and comes with a LOA from Sports Investors (181619A2) for the game use.
