Presented is a Philadelphia Eagles throwback jersey worn by linebacker Takeo Spikes during the September 23, 2007 home game versus the Detroit Lions at Lincoln Financial Field. The power blue and yellow throwback Reebok jersey (a color scheme meant to match the flag of the City of Philadelphia) was worn only once — for that Sunday Night Football appearance on NBC — in which the Eagles easily defeated the Lions by a lopsided final of 56 to 21. (The colors had been used by the Eagles and their predecessors, the Frankford Yellowjackets, until the 1940s). In our opinion the jersey shows signs of appropriate game use, with appropriate lettering and numbers, as well as proper tagging. It is accompanied by a MeiGray LOA.
A two-time Pro Bowler (2003, 2004) and one of the top play-making linebackers of the 21st century, Spikes joined the Eagles in March 2007 as part of a three-player trade with the Buffalo Bills. He had been a first round draft choice in 1998. He retired with 1,423 tackles, 29 quarterback sacks, 19 interceptions, and 15 forced fumbles.
