Pete Sampras wore these size 10 ½ Nike tennis shoes at the 2002 U.S .Open, when he won his then-record 14th Grand Slam singles title. Sampras has employed black ink to autograph both shoes, adding to their collectability. Before Roger Federer broke his Grand Slam titles record, Sampras was considered the greatest tennis player ever. During his 15-year tour career, he won 14 Grand Slam singles titles, including five U.S. Open singles titles, an open-era record shared with former World No. 1 players Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer. He was the year-end World No. 1 for six consecutive years from 1993 to 1998, a record for the open era. He spent 286 weeks at number 1, the most of any player. He won five ATP World Tour Finals, a record shared with Ivan Lendl and Federer. Sampras is the last American male to win Wimbledon (2000) and ATP World Tour Finals (1999). These shoes are accompanied with a JSA LOA for both signatures and have additional tagging from a previous auction house sale.
