Once Muhammad Ali was asked which man was the toughest he'd ever fought, and his ironic answer was George Chuvalo for his unparalleled toughness and resolve in the ring. These beautiful historic everlast trunks were worn by the legend Muhammad Ali in his second 15-round battle with Canadian George Chuvalo on May 1, 1972 (NABF Heavyweight Title Fight). After the fight the Everlast trunks were given directly to referee Davey Brown. Later, Brown crossed paths with both Muhammad Ali and Angelo Dundee at the World Boxing Council in New York and had the trunks signed on the rear and dated by Ali. Ali signed in blue ink and Dundee in black. The signatures are authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). The historic Everlast trunks conclusively photo match to multiple images from the fight and are accompanied by a photo match LOA from Real Game Used (RGU) and Sports Investors. The trunks are also accompanied by a notarized letter of provenance from referee Davie Brown's daughter stating that the trunks were given to her late father and they had been in the family's possession since being gifted by Ali. A copy of the actual boxing license, a Chuvalo signed fight program, newspaper clippings, a book from Davie Brown about the fight are all included with the above mentioned RGU and Sports Investors photo match LOA's, JSA LOA and the notarized letter from referee Dave Brown's family. Documentation to this degree is what we call iron clad provenance. The trunks are in excellent condition with the exception of faint yellow staining on the front lower right side.
Muhammad Ali's gloves from his 66' bout with Chuvalo sold for $84,000 without a photo match.
