This hardcover copy of “The Playboy Book: Forty Years” is autographed by the magazine founder, Hugh Hefner. The signature has been authenticated by James Spence Authentication. In 1953, “Hef” took out a mortgage, a $600 bank loan, and raised $8,000 from 45 investors to launch Playboy. The first issue, published in December 1953, featured Marilyn Monroe from her 1949 nude calendar shoot and sold over 50,000 copies.
