A 1996 Atlanta Olympics VIP Gold medal presented to a member of the USA basketball team. In 1996, the United States returned to the Olympics with a formidable and dominant roster labeled as “Dream Team II.” The 1996 group consisted of five returners from the original “Dream Team”: Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson, John Stockton, and Karl Malone. The rest of the roster included Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, Grant Hill, Reggie Miller, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O’Neal, Gary Payton, and Mitch Richmond. With an all-time great roster, “Dream Team II” cruised their way to Olympic greatness, crushing Yugoslavia 95-69 to capture the Gold. The medal hangs from its original 32 inch green and gold embroidered ribbon. The obverse of the medal features a seated Victory holding a laurel wreath in front of the Colosseum. The reverse features the Atlanta Games emblem and is engraved "CENTENNIAL OLYMPIC GAMES." The bottom edge is engraved "Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games." Housed in its original box. Medal, diameter, 2 3/4 inches; box, 7 by 5 1/4 by 2 inches.
