On October 29, 1985, Chicago Bulls fans witnessed a pivotal moment in basketball history as Michael Jordan took the court against the Golden State Warriors, unknowingly marking what might have been the last time fans would see him wearing the iconic original Air Jordan I sneakers in an NBA game. Early in his second season, the young superstar suffered a serious foot injury during the game, sending shockwaves through the basketball world. Initially reported by the Chicago Tribune on November 5th as a six-week recovery, the injury—a fractured bone in his left foot—ultimately sidelined Jordan for six months. Despite this setback, Jordan had already begun solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time.

Presented here are the Nike Air Jordan I sneakers Jordan wore during that fateful game. These red-and-white sneakers feature black Nike Swooshes, black laces, and show notable wear, including scuffs, loose threads, and paint transfers. The left shoe is size 13, and the right size 13 ½, with interior codes (850102-TYPS) indicating production between January and February 1985. The injury occurred early in the 1985-86 season, but these shoes may have also seen action during Jordan's rookie year, though this is speculative. Jordan played 18 minutes that night, scoring 12 points to help the Bulls secure a 111-105 victory before exiting with his injury.

Following his return in March 1986, Jordan wore modified Air Jordan I versions for additional support in 13 of the 18 games he played post-injury, including the playoffs. The five games lacking photographic evidence leave open the possibility that these are the last pair of original Air Jordan I sneakers Jordan ever wore in an NBA game. This listing includes a wire photo from the game and a newspaper image from the following day showing the sneakers. Additionally, a YouTube video provides a closer look at the shoes, showcasing characteristics consistent with this pair. While the resolution of the photos and video prevents a conclusive third-party photo match, the similarities are compelling.

This incredible piece of basketball history is accompanied by a MEARS Letter of Authenticity.
