Presented is a typed letter dated April 4, 1896, and signed at the conclusion in black fountain pen by William McKinley. Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication. The 25th President of the United States was six months into his second term when he was shot by Leon Czolgosz on September 5, 1901, and died of his wounds on September 14. McKinley led the nation to victory in the Spanish–American War, raised protective tariffs to promote American industry, and maintained the nation on the gold standard. McKinley was the last president to have served in the American Civil War, beginning as a private in the Union Army and ending as a brevet major.
