This 9” x 3-1/4” American League Base Ball Club of New York business check has been signed by two New York Yankees legends — Jacob Ruppert and by Ed Barrow. Issued from the Yorkville Bank of New York, Check No. 192 is dated “Sep 1 1925” and in the amount of $1,768.80. Ruppert has signed in fountain pen on the appropriate line as team president, with Barrow’s signature (“E.G. Barrow”) vertically placed as secretary. The document has expected bank notations and cancellation holes.
Ruppert made his fortune in beer, served four terms in the U.S. Congress, but made a name for himself after purchasing the Yankees in 1915, owning it until his death in 1939. In that span he watched team make 10 World Series appearances and take home seven titles. Both men were elected to the Hall of Fame, Barrow in 1953 and Ruppert in 2013.
